how's the new vader? i love the shit out of the old stuff, but for whatever reason i dropped off after revelations. vader without doc just felt really weird to me.
ReplyDeleteI lost track of Vader well before that (Black to the Blind was the last thing I got into). Honestly, this might be my favorite Vader album. This thing is tremendous. Shockingly good from end to end. Good songwriting throughout. Great production. And riffs out the wazoo. But since I missed over a decade of Vader, I might not be a good authority.

ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble digging Diotima, I still love the S/T and Dimensional Bleedthrough so much.
The problem with Diotima is that it's almost impossible to digest. It's so massive that it will fill your entire aural digestive tract. But somehow I've absorbed it, and it's become one of my favorite albums of the year. I wouldn't even know how to compare it to S/T and DB at this point.

Krallice hasn't done it for me since their s/t, and there's just something not to like about them.
Am I the only one who thinks Defeatist uses the china cymbal too much?
I was at Urfaust last night as well. Ridiculous show. I can't believe how good they were.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Defeatist, I pretty much just always trust that Joel Stallings knows more about drums than me and let it go.
He's a good drummer, don't get me wrong, it's just one of those things, as a drummer myself, I can't stand when someone sticks to the china like that. Kinda like Anteaus whose drummer would do a fill every measure during a fast section that just becomes distracting and loses momentum.
