Floating in the void which binds are vibes conveyed by a very few albums. In particular, those are a trio of long-plays released by Enslaved between 2000 and 2003. Your mileage may vary, and my sanity might wobble, but Banishment evokes that psychic oeuvre for me. In its twelve minutes and thirty six seconds, Banishment belays wavering wiles and chiming tones to black metal fuckery. The vocals are rage unchecked. The actual sound recalls Yellow Eyes and Bosse-de-Nage more than Enslaved, of course, but both of those bands also transcend tradition in similar ways. Theophonos follows up this EP immediately with a full-length I've yet to absorb. I hope it's just as fucked.
